Information

SBUMC was organized on July 19, 1964 with 113 charter members. Those members believed that a continuing relevant ministry is concerned with individual needs for commitment, spiritual growth and service. SBUMC remains committed to this belief, being vitally involved in community needs and, through the agencies of the United Methodist Church and other missions, provide an outreach ministry to the world-at-large. Come join us in praise and worship and see the power of Jesus' love at work in your community.

 Special Ceremonies at SBUMC

Satellite Beach desires to help you and your family to grow in a living relationship with Jesus Christ. To do so, we can offer assistance in the following areas:

  • Baptism: In our understanding God wants to welcome people of all ages, nations and races into God's family. Baptism is the public sign that a person is now included as part of the family of God. We baptize infants and children at the request of the parent(s). We also baptize youth or adults who want to publicly declare their faith in Jesus Christ and be baptized as the sign that they are now follower(s) of him. Typically, baptisms are performed during public worship, but under certain circumstances, other arrangements can be made. Please contact one of the pastors for further information.
  • Communion: Also known as the Lord's Supper, Communion usually celebrated on the first Sunday of each month at all worship services. We also celebrate Communion at other occasions during the year. Communion is open to all persons who desire to be connected to God. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us by email or telephone.
  • Marriages: Marriages are performed by the pastors of Satellite Beach United Methodist Church with deep awareness of the importance of this decision and with a concern to lift up the value of life-long marriage. Because we consider this a ministry of the Church, fees are kept as reasonable as possible. Under no circumstances would cost alone prevent anyone from being married by one of the pastors of our church.

In addition, experience across the nation has shown that sufficient preparation for marriage has resulted in a tremendous drop in the divorce rate in those communities which have taken seriously the need for helping couples be ready for marriage. For this reason, along with many Christian churches in Brevard County, we have the following policy:
    1. The wedding must be scheduled a minimum of 3 months before the wedding date.
    2. Couples must take part in a minimum of 6 sessions of counseling or involvement in marriage preparation classes. This can be a combination of time with one of the pastors, or involvement in a class for the purpose of marriage preparation, or time spent with a mentoring couple whose training, personal experience and deep concern for couples preparing for marriage make them uniquely able to be of assistance in your marriage preparations. Arrangements can be made when one or both of the couple are residing out of town.
    3. Participation in worship is highly encouraged, though not required.
A booklet with detailed information and policies is available upon request from the church office. (777-0116; or by email).
  • Funeral and Memorial Services: The pastors of Satellite Beach United Methodist are available to help you plan an appropriate service to celebrate the life of your loved one. It is vital to contact the church or one of the pastors as far ahead of time as possible. The church's schedule, plus the personal schedules of needed staffpersons may necessitate adjustments for time and place of a service.

Traditions have changed regarding funeral and memorial services, and continue to evolve. Guidance is often very important. If you are using a funeral home, that funeral director will typically provide you with guidance. Since fewer and fewer people are using traditional funeral homes, however, some assistance may be helpful to you. A booklet with detailed information and policies is available upon request from the church office. (777-0116; or by email)
